PSLV C54/EOS-06 Mission

PSLV C54/EOS-06 Mission

ISRO’s work horse PSLV-C54 has successfully launched EOS-06 satellite along with Eight Nano-satellites into two different SSPOs. The mission was accomplished from Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR on 26th November 2022.

About Launching

The 44.4 meter rocket launched with a lift-off mass of 321 tonnes with its primary satellite being the Earth Observation Satellite-6, also dubbed the Oceansat-3. PSLV-C-54 is also carrying Anand, a technology demonstrator nano satellite.

EOS-06 (Earth Observation Satellite)

EOS-06 is the third generation satellite in the Oceansat series, which provides continued services of Oceansat-2 with enhanced payload capability.

Payloads of Satellite

The satellite onboard carries four important payloads viz. Ocean Color Monitor (OCM-3), Sea Surface Temperature Monitor (SSTM), Ku-Band Scatterometer (SCAT-3), ARGOS.

8 Nanosatellite

The eight nanosatellites were developed by private companies and also jointly by India and Bhutan.

Findings of EOS-06

The EOS-06 is envisaged to observe ocean colour data, sea surface temperature and wind vector data to use in Oceanography, climatic and meteorological applications.

Oceansat-2

The Oceansat-2 which was launched in Sept-2009 configured to cover global oceans and provide continuity of ocean colour data with global wind vectors and characterization of the lower atmosphere and ionosphere.

Outcome

The mission resulted in many research collaborations nationally and internationally on various areas of global chlorophyll distribution, Kd 490 distribution, ocean colour images, oil spillages, and wind vector products.
