The revered individuals are Shahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji, who were tragically martyred under the orders of the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb. This declaration pays homage to the sacrificial stand taken by these valiant souls against the oppressive forces of that era.

Veer Bal Diwas 2023 History

The four sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Sikh guru, were Sahibzada Ajit Singh, Shahibjada Jujhar Singh, Sahibjada Zorawar Singh, and Sahibzada Fateh Singh. In 1704, during a period of food scarcity, Punjab’s Aurangzeb seized Anandpur Sahib, leading to a prolonged struggle on the bank of the Sarsa River that resulted in the family’s separation. Facing the grim reality of the situation, Guru Gobind Singh agreed to the demands imposed by the Mughals, and the Sikhs, compelled by circumstances, surrendered the fortress.

However, the truce was short-lived, and the Mughals, reneging on their agreement, pursued the Sikhs, forcing them to abandon Anandpur. Nawab Wazir Khan, during this tumultuous time, kidnapped Guru Gobind Singh’s sons, Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh, taking them to Sirhind. Here, they were pressured to convert to Islam for their safety. Despite the life-threatening situation, both sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji steadfastly refused to renounce their faith.

In a tragic turn of events, Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh were purportedly sentenced to death by being bricked alive for their unwavering commitment to Sikhism. Their courageous stand against the oppressors became a poignant symbol of sacrifice and resilience, inspiring generations to come. Veer Bal Diwas serves as a day to remember and honor the indomitable spirit of these young warriors who chose martyrdom over compromising their principles.
