All You Need To Know About UPSC

UPSC stands for Union Public Service Commission, which conducts the Civil Service Examination along with some other examinations. Via the Civil Services Examination, the UPSC recruits candidates for various Central and All India Civil Service posts in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Revenue Service (IRS), etc.

Eligibility

  • Must be a citizen of India, a person of Indian origin or a subject of Nepal, Bhutan or Tibet settled in India before 1st January 1962.
  • Education Qualification: Candidate must hold a Graduate Degree from a recognised University.
  • Exam Age Limit: Candidate must be a minimum of 21 years of age and must not be more than 32 years of age.

UPSC Exam Pattern

UPSC Civil Services examination is a yearly exam, the pattern is officially divided into two stages called Preliminary and Main Examination while in practice, it is a three-stage exam. The third is the Personality Test/Interview.

Candidates who clear the Preliminary exam, which is only qualifying in nature, are eligible to write the MAINS exam and candidates clearing MAINS to reach the interview stage.

UPSC CSE PRELIMS EXAM PATTERN

This stage consists of two objective-type papers, conducted on the same day. Marks secured at this stage are not counted towards the final merit list.

UPSC CSE MAINS EXAM PATTERN

The UPSC exam pattern for the MAINS exam consists of 9 papers conducted over 5-7 days. All of the papers consist of descriptive answer-type questions.

UPSC PERSONALITY TEST

The total marks of the UPSC Interview stage are 275, thus bringing the total marks for UPSC Mains and Interview for the merit list consideration to 2025.
