What are UNESCO Global Geoparks?
- UNESCO Global Geoparks are single, unified geographical areas where sites and landscapes of international geological significance are managed with a holistic concept of protection, education and sustainable development.
- At present, there are 229 UNESCO Global Geoparks in 50 countries.
- It was established in 2015 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
- Presently, India does not have any sites included in the UNESCO Global Geoparks list.

- Recognises the geological heritage of global value.
- Promotes sustainable development, geo-education, geotourism, and community involvement.
