Demand of the Question-This question requires understanding of appointment of judges in judiciary and the evolution of ways of their appointment.

Structure of the Answer

Intro– Give provisions of the Constitution for judges. Describe what the college system is.

Body-In the first part, mention the timeline of how the system of collegium evolved, ,along with important Supreme Court judgements and Constitutional Amendments. In the second part, mention the procedure established under the collegium system for the appointment of the judges. In the last part, discuss the pros and cons/criticisms of such a system.

Conclusion-State the importance of independent judiciary along with ways to ensure this. Suggest ways to modify the collegium system to ensure the drawbacks are eradicated.
