The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is responsible for recruiting eligible candidates for Stenographer Grade C and D posts through a computer-based test (CBT) and a skill test. The Commission released the SSC Stenographer Syllabus 2024 along with the Exam Pattern with the Notification. The SSC Stenographer recruit is consist of two parts which is divided into Tier 1 and Tier 2. Tier 1 comprises three sections: General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, and English Language & Comprehension. Tier 2 is a shorthand skill test where candidates need to write a dictated passage and then transcribe it on a computer.

Candidates preparing for the SSC Stenographer Recruit should have an idea about the syllabus and exam pattern. The SSC Steno recruits Grade C and Grade D non-gazetted posts in various government ministries, departments, and offices. This national-level examination comprises two phases: a Computer-Based Test (CBT) and a Shorthand Skill Test. The CBT in Tier 1 consists of 200 questions, with each question carrying one mark. The maximum marks for Tier 1 are 200, and the total duration of the exam is 2 hours. The language of the CBT is bilingual, i.e., English and Hindi, except for the English Language section. Tier 1: Computer-Based Test (CBT)

The CBT is an objective multiple-choice exam with three sections: Marking Scheme:

• 1 mark for each correct answer
• 0.25 marks deducted for each incorrect response

Tier 2: Shorthand Skill Test

The Skill Test assesses the candidate’s shorthand proficiency and transcription accuracy. Dictation Speed:

• Grade D: 80 words per minute (w.p.m) for 8 minutes
• Grade C: 100 w.p.m for 10 minutes

Qualifying Criteria for Skill Test:

• Grade C: 5% mistakes allowed (10% for OBC/SC/ST/Ex-servicemen)
• Grade D: 7% mistakes allowed (10% for OBC/SC/ST/Ex-servicemen)
