SSC CGL Selection Process 2024 for Tier 1 and Tier 2 Steps by Steps

The selection process for SSC CGL 2024 consists of two tiers of Computer-Based Exams followed by document verification. Before it was a three-tier system, the selection procedure was revised in 2022 after removing the descriptive process. To appear in Tier 2 you have to qualify the Tier 1 examination. The Final merit list for SSC CGL is now only based on the Tier-2 examination.

The Staff Selection Commission announced the Combined Graduate Level (SSC CGL) exam date for 2024 which recruits candidates for various positions in different ministries and departments of the Government of India. SSC CGL Selection Process for Tier I

The SSC CGL 2024 Tier 1 exam consists of 100 questions which covers English Language, General Awareness, Reasoning, and Quantitative Aptitude sections. A total of 200 marks were equally distributed among them. Candidates will get 2 marks for each correct answer, while 0.5 marks will be deducted for each incorrect attempt, check this out the exam pattern of SSC CGL 2024 Tier 1.

Please note that marks obtained in the Tier-1 examination are not counted for final merit, it is qualifying in nature. Those candidates who clear the cutoff of Tier 1 examination will be called for the Tier 2 Examination.

SSC CGL Selection Process for Tier II

The SSC CGL Tier 2 exam is a deciding factor in the selection process. SSC CGL Tier 2 consists of Paper 1, Paper 2, and Paper 3 conducted in multiple shifts or sessions each day. Paper 1 has three sections which is held on the same day. Section 1 covers Reasoning and Mathematics for a total of 180 marks, while Section 2 has English and General Awareness for 210 marks. After a 15-minute interval, a computer exam will be conducted, which is qualifying and contains 60 marks.

Documents required for SSC CGL in Verification

The document verification process for SSC CGL is the final step after the Tier 2 examination. This process confirms that candidates meet the eligibility criteria and have the necessary educational qualifications for the positions they applied for.

First, candidates who qualify in the Tier 2 exam will be called for document verification based on their performance and merit. Candidates must bring the following documents for verification:

  1. printout of the online application form,
  2. Admit card for the Tier 2 examination,
  3. Photo ID proof (such as an Aadhaar card, PAN card, or voter ID),
  4. Educational certificates (mark sheets and degrees) for all relevant qualifications, a caste certificate (if applicable), age proof (such as a birth certificate or class 10 certificate), etc

Verification is done at respective headquarters, candidates will need to submit their original documents along with photocopies. Officials will check the authenticity of the documents and verify the details provided in the application form. Candidates who successfully complete the document verification will be considered for final selection based on their performance in the Tier 2 examination, and those who fail to show the required documents will be disqualified for further processes.

Photo ID Proof Verification

In the SSC CGL selection process, candidates have to present original documents for verification like Photo ID proof that matches the date of birth on the Admission Certificate. Below are some documents mentioned for verification purposes:

Important Points in SSC CGL Selection Process 2024

  1. The SSC CGL results will be based on the normalized marks of candidates from both tiers to ensure an accurate and unbiased selection
  2. Tier 1 is qualifying in nature, marks cannot be summed up with the Tier 2
  3. The Commission does not allow any re-evaluation or re-checking of marks obtained in any tier of the SSC CGL examination.
  4. Candidates who do not qualify Tier 2 will not be called for document verification.
  5. It is mandatory to submit your SSC CGL Post Preference Order on the official website after the Tier 2 examination.
  6. After every stage, the board will release the SSC CGL Answer Key. Candidates can submit objections to the answer keys online by paying Rs. 100 per question.
