Case Study of the Day: Samagra Shiksha, Telangana Reading Challenge in KGBVs

The Samagra Shiksha, Telangana Reading Challenge in KGBVs is a program that was launched in 2020-21 to enhance the reading and speaking abilities of students of classes (7-8) in the subjects English, Science, Telugu and Social through distance learning mode. The program was implemented by the State KGBV Coordinator, Samagra Shiksha, Telangana.

Objectives

• Improve the students’ reading skills in English, Science, Telugu and Social.
• Enhance the students’ speaking abilities in English, Science, Telugu and Social.
• Help the students connect with their teachers during the pandemic.

Methodology

• Online reading sessions with teachers, Virtual book clubs, Reading competitions, Speaking competitions and Quizzes. The program also provided the students with access to a variety of reading materials, including books, articles, and videos.

Impact

• The Reading Challenge Programme has had a positive impact on the students’ reading and speaking abilities. The students have reported that they are now able to read more fluently and confidently. They have also reported that they are now able to speak more clearly and articulately.
• The program has also helped the students connect with their teachers during the pandemic. The online reading sessions and virtual book clubs have allowed the students to interact with their teachers and classmates in a meaningful way.

Conclusion
