SAFF Football Championship
The national teams of South Asian nations compete in the biannual international football competition known as the SAFF Football Championship, commonly known as the South Asian Football Federation Championship. 1993: The SAFF Championship’s debut competition was held in Lahore, Pakistan. India won the match by defeating Pakistan in the championship game.
SAFF Championship 2023 Participating Team
The 14th edition of the competition was divided into two groups and included all South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) member associations. In the group stage, teams competed in round-robin league matches, with the top two teams from each group moving on to the semifinals. The draw date will be revealed later.

SAFF Championship 2023 Highlights
Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, the custodian, once again proved to be the deciding factor as he turned away a critical penalty kick in the summit match to help India defeat Kuwait 5-4 in the shootout and win the SAFF Championships title for the seventh time here on Tuesday. A sudden death rule was used since the score remained 4-4 after five rounds of penalty kicks. Despite the wild jubilation of the home crowd and the India dugout after Mahesh Naorem’s goal, a diving Sandhu stopped Kuwait captain Khaled Hajiah’s shot. Earlier, Lallianzuala Chhangte tied the score in the 39th minute after Shabaib Al Khaldi gave Kuwait the lead in the 14th minute.
SAFF Championship 2023 Title
In a nail-biting penalty shootout versus Kuwait, the Indian men’s football team prevailed 5-4 to win the championship of the SAFF Championship for 2023 at Bengaluru’s Sree Kanteerava Stadium. India, who is now ranked 100th in the FIFA rankings, won their seventh SAFF Championship in 14 edition. After winning the Intercontinental Cup the previous month, they achieved their second victory in a row with this one.
The hosts, India, were unbeaten throughout the whole SAFF Championship 2023. In the group stage, they won against Pakistan and Nepal and drew with Kuwait. They defeated Lebanon on penalties in the semifinals, and then they accomplished the same feat against Kuwait in a thrilling championship game.
SAFF Championship 2023 Prize
The team also received a monetary prize of USD 50,000, or INR 41 lakh, in addition to the medals. The Kuwaiti football team won the prize for placing second in the 2023 SAFF Championship. Along with medals for each player, the squad earned a cheque for US Dollar 25,000, which is equivalent to around 20 lakh and 50 lakhs in Indian rupees.

India is the most successful team in SAFF Championship history, having won the competition eight times out of the previous 12 editions. The Indian national football team, who won the 2021 competition after defeating Nepal in the championship game, will be attempting to retain their title.
All India Football Federation
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, is responsible for overseeing the All India Football Federation (AIFF), which is the national football regulating body.
