About Russia – North Korea Defence Treaty

Mutual Military Assistance: The treaty obligates both nations to provide immediate military assistance to each other if either is attacked. This assistance can include “all means” available, reflecting a commitment to collective defence.
Response to External Aggression: The treaty emphasises that military support will be provided in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, which allows for self-defence against armed attacks.
Comprehensive Strategic Partnership: The agreement establishes a framework for deeper military cooperation, which includes potential joint exercises and sharing of military technology.
Training and Troop Deployment: Reports indicate that North Korea has sent approximately 3,000 troops to Russia for training, with plans for more troops to be deployed in the coming months.
