One Vehicle, One FASTag Initiative

The “One Vehicle, One FASTag” initiative by NHAI ensures each vehicle has only one active FASTag for toll payments, effective April 1, 2024. This combats misuse, such as using a single tag for multiple vehicles or multiple tags for one vehicle, addressing issues of improper toll collection and KYC compliance.

Users can recharge their FASTags with any bank, but transferring tags between vehicles is prohibited. Completing KYC is vital, with incomplete KYC leading to tag deactivation. FASTag status can be checked online, and KYC updates processed within 7 days. Compliance ensures smoother toll transactions and enhances highway travel efficiency.

Implementation Date and Objective

The “One Vehicle, One FASTag” initiative was implemented by NHAI starting April 1, 2024. Its primary objective is to ensure that each vehicle has only one active FASTag associated with it, thereby deterring the practice of using a single tag for multiple vehicles or associating multiple tags with one vehicle.

Purpose behind the Initiative

NHAI introduced this initiative in response to reports of multiple FASTags being issued for a single vehicle and instances of tags being issued without completing the mandatory KYC process, in violation of RBI guidelines. Moreover, improper placement of FASTags on vehicles led to delays at toll plazas, inconveniencing highway users.

KYC Compliance

NHAI emphasizes the importance of completing the KYC (Know Your Customer) process for FASTags, aligning with RBI guidelines. FASTags with incomplete KYC are subject to deactivation or blacklisting by banks. Users are encouraged to update their KYC details promptly to ensure uninterrupted service.
