About National Mission on Strategic Knowledge for Climate Change (NMSKCC)
- Launch: It is one of the eight national missions that form the core of the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC), which was launched in 2008.
- Implementing agency: The Department of Science and Technology.
- Goal: It seeks to build a vibrant and dynamic knowledge system that would inform and support national action for responding effectively to the objective of ecologically sustainable development.
- Key objectives of the mission:
- Creation of knowledge networks to promote climate science research
- Creation of international technology monitoring organizations to conduct studies on the sustainable technologies
- Research and development on how climate change affects key socioeconomic areas like agriculture, health, natural ecosystems, biodiversity, coastal zones, etc.
- To create and develop the conceptual knowledge necessary to define sustainable development pathways in the context of responsible climate change-related actions
- To strengthen indigenous capacity for the development of technologies for coping with climate change
- Building institutional capability and human resources related to climate science
- To form alliances and collaborations through international and bilateral S&T cooperation agreements in climate change research and technology development.
- The National Mission on Strategic Knowledge for Climate Change should ideally serve as Support mission for generating and providing strategic knowledge to all other 7 national missions under National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC).

National Mission for Green India | Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change | Protecting, restoring and enhancing India’s forest cover and responding to Climate Change |
National Mission for Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem | Department of Science and Technology | To expand a sustainable national capacity to regularly monitor the health of the Himalayan Ecosystem, support policy-making bodies in their work, and help States in the Indian Himalayan Region carry out the actions chosen for sustainable development. |
National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture | Ministry of Agriculture | To make agriculture more productive, sustainable, remunerative and climate resilient by promoting location specific Integrated/Composite Farming Systems. |
