Key Highlights of the C295 Aircraft Project
Objective of the Project
- The C295 aircraft will replace the IAF’s Avro fleet and enhance the medium-lift tactical transport capability of the Indian Air Force (IAF).
- The Vadodara facility is the first private military transport aircraft production plant in India and the first “Make in India” aerospace project in the private sector.
- The project is a collaborative effort between Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and Airbus.
- It is Airbus’s first full production facility outside of Spain for the C295 aircraft.
- The Vadodara facility will handle manufacture, assembly, testing, qualification and maintenance for the C295.
Project Specifications
- India has ordered 56 C295 aircraft:
- First 16 are being delivered directly from Airbus’s Seville, Spain facility,
- Remaining 40 will be manufactured and assembled in Vadodara.
- Aircraft Capabilities:
- The C295 is designed for tactical transport of up to 71 troops or 50 paratroopers and can operate from short, unprepared airstrips.
- In addition to troop transport, it supports medical evacuations (medevac), airdrop operations and can serve disaster response and maritime patrol roles.
