Haryana Civil Services Prelims Syllabus 2025
The HCS Prelims is the phase of the Exam. General Studies and CSAT objective-type question papers are part of the HPCS HCS preliminary exam. The General Studies section of the HPCS HCS Prelims Exams consists of General Studies and CSAT (Civil Service Aptitude Test). General Studies Paper I
- General Science.

CSAT Paper II

Haryana Civil Services Mains Syllabus 2025
HPSC HCS Mains is the second phase in the HCS Selection Process. Candidates who qualify for the Prelims are eligible for the Mains Exam. The main exam has 4 papers, of which 3 are compulsory while 1 is optional. When generating the HCS result, the candidates’ prelims exam scores will be taken into account.
Paper I: English and English Essay
The objective of this paper is to examine the candidate’s proficiency in communicating their ideas accurately and clearly in English while reading and comprehending major discursive writing.

Candidates sitting for the exam need to write an essay on the given topics. There will be a selection of topics.
Paper-II: Hindi and Hindi Essay in Devanagari script
- Translation of an English passage into Hindi.
- Letter/Precis writing.
- Explanation of Hindi passage (prose and poetry) in the same language.
- Composition (idioms, correction etc.).
- Essay on a specific topic. The choice of subjects will be given.
Paper III: General Studies
The exams’ format and nature will allow a well-educated person to successfully complete them without the need for specialist study. The questions will be designed to gauge a candidate’s general knowledge of a range of topics that are pertinent to a career in the civil service.
Part-I
Part I of Paper III includes the Modern history of India and Indian Culture, Geography of India, Indian Polity and Current national issues.
- History of Modern India and Indian Culture The History of Modern India will cover the history of the country from about the middle of the nineteenth century and would also include questions on important personalities in the freedom struggle of India and social and religious reforms in India. The part relating to Indian Culture ‘will cover all aspects of Indian culture from ancient to modern times.
- Geography of India The physical, economic and social geography of India.
- Indian Polity Constitution of India, the Political system and related matters.
- Current National issues and topics of social relevance This part is intended to test the candidate’s awareness of current national issues and topics of social relevance in present-day India, such as Demography and Human Resources and related issues. Social and Behavioural issues and issues on social welfare, such as child labour, gender equality, adult literacy, rehabilitation of the handicapped and other deprived segments of society, drug abuse, public health etc. The issue of Law enforcement, human rights, corruption, communal harmony etc. Internal Security and related issues. Issues on Environment, preservation of ecology, conservation of natural heritage and resources. National institution’s role, their relevance and the changes needed.
Part II
Part II of Paper III includes India and World Affairs, Indian Economy, International Affairs and Institutions and Developments in the Field of Science and Technology and Statistics.
- India and the World Affairs This part is intended to test the candidate’s awareness of India’s relationship with the world in various spheres, such as the following: – Foreign Affairs External Security and related matters. Nuclear Policy. Indian abroad.
- Indian Economy In this part, questions will be on the planning and economic development in India, economic and trade issues foreign trade, the role and functions of I.M.F. World Bank, W.T.O. etc.
- International Affairs and Institutions This part will include questions on important events in world affairs and on international institutions.
- Developments in the fields of science and technology, communications and space In this part, questions will test the candidate’s awareness of the developments in the field of science and technology, communications and space technology and general knowledge of computers.
- Statistical analysis, graphs and diagrams This part will include exercises to test the candidate’s ability to draw common sense conclusions from information presented in a statistical, graphical or diagrammatical form and to point out limitations or inconsistencies and deficiencies therein.
HPSC HCS Optional Subjects 2025
Candidates should choose just one of the 29 optional subjects from the list below that they wish to take for the HPSC HCS Mains 2025. It should be noted that after submitting the HPSC HCS Application Form 2025, no changes can be made to the optional subject. The following section lists the current optional subjects that are offered.
