The Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) conducts the Haryana Civil Services (HCS) exam to recruit eligible candidates for various administrative positions within the state. If you are preparing for the HPSC HCS exam in 2025, understanding the syllabus is crucial to build a solid study plan. This detailed article provides an in-depth overview of the HPSC HCS Syllabus 2025, including exam patterns for both Prelims and Mains and key subjects to focus on.
HPSC Exam Pattern 2025
The Haryana Government has modified the format of the HCS prelims test, which is at present in line with the IAS prelims exam because of the paper pattern and type of questions asked. The HPSC HCS Exam 2025 has three stages:
- Preliminary Examination,
- Mains Examination and
- Personal Interview
To qualify, one must pass each stage of this exam. Every year, thousands of students show up intending to be hired for positions in the state’s administration. However, the HPSC only announces a few hundred positions each year for which the candidates are chosen. Therefore, gathering knowledge about the ocean you wish to dive into should be every aspirant’s priority.
HCS Prelims Exam Pattern 2025
HCS Prelims is the first phase of the Haryana Civil Service Selection Process. Two objective-type papers with multiple-choice questions are in the Haryana PCS Preliminary Exam. These two papers are worth a total of 200 points in total.
General Studies Paper | Max. Marks | Time Allotted |
General Studies Paper I | 100 Marks | 2 hours |
Optional Paper | 100 Marks | 2 hours |
Based on the optional subject you chose from the 19 subjects HPSC offers, Paper-II assesses you. It is important to mark your responses carefully because the Haryana PCS exam uses 1/4th negative marking, meaning that 0.25 marks will be subtracted from the final result for each incorrect response. There won’t be any deductions for questions that aren’t answered. There will be two language options for the exam: Hindi and English.
HCS Mains Exam Pattern 2025
Haryana Civil Service Mains is the Second Phase of the HCS Recruitment. Candidates who qualify for the HCS Prelims exam are eligible for the Mains. The Haryana PCS Mains Exam consists of five descriptive papers and 600 marks are up for grabs.

Papers IV and V will test your knowledge of two of the 23 subjects that Haryana PCS has provided. Since each of these two exams carries 150 marks, for a total of 300 marks in the Mains Exam, and that both must be finished in the allotted three hours per paper, they carry the highest weight.
HPSC Interview Pattern 2025
- Based on the results of the main exam, the shortlisted applicants who successfully complete the first two phases are qualified for the personal interview.
- It takes place on the grounds of the HPSC in Panchkula.
- There are 75 total marks for the interview.
- The final merit list would then be created using all 675 of the available marks.
- The final merit list is compiled using the scores from the Main Exam and Interview.
- The HPSC will contact the candidates who pass the HPSC HCS Mains Exam 2025 to schedule a personality test or interview.
